Hapuna Beach State Park is a popular white sand beach located on the west coast of the Big Island along the Kohala coast.
Hāpuna (literally, “spring” or “pool” in Hawaiian) is popular with residents and visitors because of the white sand under their feet and fun waves.
Hapuna beach was named the Best Beach in America by Florida International University professor Stephen Leatherman, known as “Dr Beach”, in 1993.
Laying out on the beach or riding waves in the shore breaks are common here. Many Ironman athletes enjoy swimming and training at this beach also.
There are plenty of onsite amenities including, showers, covered picnic tables, bathrooms and even rentals. This popular beach does have a Lifeguard on site.
