Kohanaiki Beach Park is a sacred beach also known as “Pine Trees”. World renowned because of the surf, this beach park is a local hangout for some of Hawaii’s best. The name pine trees is actually a joke, because the locals called the trees on the beach pine trees.
There is overnight camping, for those who have an overnight permit. In order to get a permit you must apply in person at Building B of the West Hawaii Civic Center, 74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Highway in Kailua-Kona. There is available camping five days a week for up to 80 campers a night. There is regular camping permit fees plus $1.00 per person.
There are bathrooms and bbq’s on site. Swimming is not recommended at this beach, but surfing the waves is very much authorized.
