The name always strikes a bit of controversy but that should not stop you from having a feel of this amazing place. Nakalele Blowhole is located on the road from Kapalua heading to Wailuku. There is a hike to get down there. Wear hiking shoes or tennis shoes.
The blowholes were formed after the ocean washed away the shore below the lava level. The extraordinary feature that would drive you down there is almost like science. When the waves reach the shore, water is forced into a hole in the lava levels which cause an eruption that resembles a geyser. Call it an alternative geyser. The effects are more dramatic on high tides.
The best road leading to this place is the Honoapiilani Highway north of Kapalua. The effects can be seen as you hike down. It is advised not to get too close to the blowholes. There is a trailhead where one can see the beacon without hiking.
Make sure you get close enough to see the heart shaped blowhole as it is a magnificent sight. There are two parking area with the trails leading to the blowhole. The trails were not laid with and end destination in plan. Feel free to pick any that will give you a superb experience before you get to the Nakalele blowholes.
