Richardson Beach Park is the only black-sand beach in Hilo, with a seawall that runs along much of the rocky shoreline. This location provides lifeguards & picnic areas along with showers and bathrooms.
Located 10 minutes away from the heart of Hilo, this beach is where locals and tourist alike come together to enjoy the warm waters of Hilo.
The most common activities to enjoy while at Richardson Beach park are Swimming, diving, surfing, fishing and picnicking. There are plenty of trees for shade and some areas have grass.
The name Richardson comes from its original owner and builder of the still-standing home there, Elsa and George Richardson.
