South Point park (Ka Lae) is located in the Ka’u district of the Big Island of Hawaii. The park gets it’s name because it is the southern most point of the island as well as the southernmost point of the United States.
It is believed that the first people to arrive in the Hawaiian Islands arrived here at Ka Lae somewhere between 400 and 800 A.D. The area has many ancient ruins and temple structures partially standing to this day.
At South Point there is excellent fishing and a popular cliff jump with a ladder. The high cliffs drop into deep water teeming with marine wildlife. Snorkeling is certainly on the agenda for adventurous water lovers.
