Waimea Canyon is a popular attraction located on the far western side of Kauai in the Waimea Canyon State Park. Often called the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific,” Waimea Canyon is known for its colorful red soil, depth, and spectacular views.
The canyon is free to visit with plenty of parking and public facilities. There is an accessible path that leads to the scenic lookout. Camping, off-roading, and rock climbing are currently forbidden.
There are two major hiking trails and seasonal opportunities for hunting and fishing. The Iliau Nature Loop trail is less than half a mile and is considered a perfect hike for beginners.
On the other hand, the Kukui trail is approximately 2.5 miles and is recommended for more experienced hikers. The most common ways to reach Waimea Canyon is by car, taking Highway 550, or by helicopter. Regardless of the method you choose, you will be pleased with your decision to view such a beautiful site.
